The Gorge is the support lifeform: slow and weak in a fight, but it heals players and structures, builds small defensive structures, and later sieges marine bases with Bile Bomb. One or two gorges are normal; a team of five gorges loses.
Abilities#
| Slot | Ability | Energy | Unlock |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Spit / Heal Spray | 7 / 10 | Start |
| 2 | Build menu: Hydra, Clog, Web, Babbler Egg | – | Start |
| 3 | Bile Bomb | 20 | Biomass 2 + research |
| 4 | Babblers | 7 | Babbler Egg |
Spit#
Primary attack. A projectile for 30 normal damage that also blurs the hit marine's view for a few seconds. Spit is affected by Focus (+33% damage per level of Veils at max, with no attack slow). Its main job is to finish off marines and pressure them from range, not to win 1v1s.
Heal Spray#
Secondary attack. A short cone (6 m) that:
- heals friendly players by 8 + 3% of their max health per spray (half that when you heal yourself),
- heals structures by 60 health per spray and speeds up their maturation,
- speeds up nearby embryos by 1 s per spray,
- damages marines for 8 biological damage (and can put out fire).
Healing scores points: 2 score per 400 healed.
Bile Bomb#
Lobbed acid that splashes 6 m and does 55 corrode damage per second for 5 s. Corrode does full damage to structures and exos (×0.4), but only strips armor from marines (×0.12, never health). Needs Biomass 2 and research (15 team res, 40 s). Bile is the alien answer to marine bases, turrets and power nodes.
Structures#
Press 2 to open the build menu. Gorge structures are free but limited per gorge:
| Structure | Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | Spike turret. Must be on infestation. | |
| 10 | Blocking blob | |
| 3 | Slowing strand | |
| 1 | Hatches babblers |
Clogs#
A 250-health blob (+4 per biomass) that sticks to walls, floors and other clogs. Clogs block doorways, vents and marine lines of fire and stop grenades. They are flammable.
Webs#
A strand between two points up to 8 m apart. A marine who touches it is webbed for 5 s (moving at 34% speed) and parasited for 10 s. Webs are nearly invisible from more than a few metres away and break after a few hits.
Babblers#
Babblers hatch from your Babbler Egg and follow you. With the Babblers ability (slot 4, 7 energy) you throw a pheromone that sends them to attack (8 damage per bite). Babblers can also cling to friendly aliens and absorb damage for them. If you hit your own babbler egg with spit, it bursts into an acid cloud.
Belly slide#
Hold Shift to slide on your belly (20 energy), up to 14 m/s. Sliding is faster on infestation and down slopes. It is the gorge's only escape tool.
Gorge eggs#
With Biomass 2 the commander can turn an egg into a Gorge Egg (20 team res). A player who spawns from it starts as a gorge for free.
Tips#
- Heal the hive and harvesters between fights; maturity makes them tougher.
- Never drop all your hydras in one spot a GL marine can hit.
- Webs in doorways stop rushes. Clogs stop grenades and block marine lines of sight.
- Stay behind your team in fights and spray anyone in front of you.
